Questions We Get a Lot
A freestanding pergola stands on its own four posts and can be placed anywhere in your yard — over a patio, beside a garden, or as a standalone destination. An attached pergola connects directly to your home or an existing structure, extending your living space outward. Both are great options; it really comes down to where you want to create shade and how you plan to use the space.
That depends on the size and style you choose, but most homeowners find a pergola fits comfortably on a standard patio or deck with a few feet of clearance on each side. Think about how many people you want to seat underneath it and whether you plan to hang lights, curtains, or a fan — that can influence the height and footprint you need. When in doubt, measure your space first and compare it against the product dimensions listed on each item page.
Pergolas are designed for year-round outdoor use and are built to hold up through normal seasonal conditions, but they're open structures by nature — so they provide shade and style more than full weather protection. If you live in an area with heavy snow loads or high winds, it's worth checking the product specs for material strength and anchoring requirements. Adding a canopy or shade sail is a popular way to extend comfort during rainy or intense-sun days.

About Our Pergolas
A pergola is one of the most rewarding additions you can make to an outdoor property. At its core, it's a freestanding or attached overhead structure — typically built from wood, aluminum, or steel — that creates a defined outdoor room without fully enclosing it. The open-roof or louvered design lets in natural light and airflow while providing just enough overhead coverage to make the space feel intentional and sheltered. Pergolas are a natural fit for homeowners who want to make better use of a backyard, patio, deck, or garden area — whether that means a shaded dining space, a quiet reading corner, or a social gathering spot that works from spring through fall. When choosing a pergola, it helps to think about the primary material and how it holds up in your local climate, the footprint relative to your available space, whether you want a freestanding structure or one that attaches to your home, and how much assembly you're comfortable taking on yourself. A well-chosen pergola can anchor your entire outdoor layout and make every season feel like time well spent outside.
